Having attended many static classic car shows over the years I have to say that my visit to the Churchill Vintage and Classic Car Show helped by a beautiful sunny day, stands head and shoulders above the others in the enjoyment stakes. This is a biannual show that is really worth pencilling in on your calendar for June 2016.
The whole village of Churchill is given over to this event, the village green, the church, the village hall, a heritage centre and local arts and crafts at a village cottage, all play their part, but over 540 classic and vintage cars tractors and model steam engines are the stars of the show. A large marquee also houses a bar and an array of stalls whilst BBQs and tea tents provide sustenance for the thousands who attended. I took my daughter and 3 year old granddaughter together with a picnic and we all had a great time as there was plenty for young ones to do as well.
For a change YTs outnumbered YA and YBs as Jerry Birkbeck’s and my YT were the only Ys on show. Once again it was good to meet the occasional aficionados of British cars who had never seen a YT and in some cases never even knew they existed. Together with the Jackall system there was always plenty to talk about. There were far more vintage and pre war cars on show than can usually be seen at similar shows so walking round was a real pleasure.
Entries for this event close months before the opening so if you do fancy a visit to the next show don’t leave it too late to sign up.
