History of car
The photograph of MG YB was taken in Reading in May this year. Yes she is very scruffy but everyone who knows her will tell you she always looks like that.
She was purchased in October 1988 with 94775 miles on the clock. By June the following year, the clock tripped back to zero. In April 2009 we had gone round the clock and were back to zero again. For the first five or six years she was used to commute daily from Kingston-on-Thames to Acton in West London, a distance of ten miles each way. As my only car she gets used to do the shopping, trips to work, trips out, indeed everything you do in your modern everyday car, the YB does as well. Nick-named “the flying brick” at work owing to her un-aerodynamic shape, she has consistently performed well. Yes things fall off every now and then but she keeps on going.
I have now moved from Middlesex to Sussex and am dripping oil around Hailsham. So now she gets to trot about between all sorts of places. So if you get stuck behind her on the A22 doing an average 45 mph, a speed she is quite comfortable at, (although going up the hills around Forrest Row, we do collect a rather long tailback at 25 to 30 mph) do not get too impatient. Remember, when the film “Genevieve” was made, that old car was the same age as my YB is now!
