Description
This tool is used to remove the castellated ring nut from the rear of the front wheel hub. It is based on the one shown on page S-7 of the Y type Maintenance Manual. However, it does not include the base plate, so a way of holding down the hub while using this tool will be needed. The suggested tommy bar is not included either, so a locally sourced bar at just below the 5/8″ diameter recommended will be needed, about 10″ long.
The aluminium ‘plug’ locates in the wheel bearing and acts as a guide for the castellated ring spanner. This is also different from the original tubular insert that used the oil seal location as a guide.
If your current castellated ring nut has been severely damaged by previously having been tightened with a hammer and drift, you will need to carefully remove all ‘peened over’ surplus material from the damaged sections to allow the ring to move at all. IMPORTANT – the left hand side hub has a left handed thread and the right hand side hub has a right hand thread (See page M23 of the manual).
