Water outlet top hose
Question:-
I am unhappy with the way the top hose fits i.e. it does not line up at all well even with a new top hose. I have looked at
a few pictures on the internet of engine bays of various Y types and all seemed much better that mine. It seems like the angle of the thermostat housing is all wrong. I have looked at NTG cooling system parts pictures and I think my engine has been fitted with a water outlet that should be used on a TC engine and thus gives an incorrect angle for the top hose to radiator boss. If the local area group was up and running I would have talked to the many T type owners but of course there has been no gatherings for well over a year. Do you think that is the case that I have a TC cylinder head water

If you compare mine with yours, mine has less of an angle and lines up with the radiator. You have a housing from a TB,TC.
Water pump and Stabilising Bar
Question:-
I am replacing the water pump as my pully has become quite wobbly on the pump shaft and getting clunky (lots of wear between both pully and pump shaft so think I will replace both items) – pump looks original to car. I noticed one of the bolts on the lower end of the pump also goes through the ‘Control link’. What is the control link – is it just a kind of engine mount stabiliser – and any issues to remove ?.
Answer:-
The stabilising bar is a VITAL part of the engine’s fitting. The front of the engine sits on just one big rubber block, the stabiliser holds it steady (as you’ll find out when you remove it). Its easy to remove but very fiddly to get at. Ensure the rubber cones are in good condition as if the engine can move on them the threaded bar wears a slot under the pump, letting water out eventually. It fits under the pump on two bolts, the other end to a bracket mounted on the damper bolts. Once you’ve fitted the new pump with the adjustment on the bar slack, do not pre-load the bar but adjust it so it simply holds the engine upright, then lock the turnbuckle nuts. Note one of those bolts that holds the pump to the block, goes right into the water jacket so may need some gasket-sealant on its threads.

Water Pump
Question:- I am installing a new water pump on my xpag. In came with no pump so my questions are. Does the long bolt fit top right or bottom right.
Two dots the engine steady bracket fit above or below the water pump.
I took your advice and had the engine rebuilt.
Answer:- The steady bracket goes under the pump, see diagram. The long and short bolts goes to the top, the two studs to the bottom for the steady bracket, see diagram. WARNING, the shorter bolt’s threaded hole goes right through to the water jacket, and can leak, fit it with jointing compound on the threads to forstall any.
Removing the Radiator
QUESTION;-Having looked at the YB Manual, it says that in order to remove the radiator, then the headlights and wing fixings etc need to be first removed. Looking inside the engine bay and the radiator fixings, it seems possible to remove the radiator whilst leaving the grille and lamps in position. What is your experience ?
