celebrating 70 years of the mg y type in style
The Round Britain Relay is the premier event of the year in which we celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the MG Y Type. A collaboration between the MG Car Club Y-Type Register, the MG Octagon Car Club and the MG Owners Club, we invite all MG enthusiasts’ to join us on our momentous journey.
We are very pleased to announce that the Round Britain Relay is sponsored by Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance. The Relay will set off from Lakeside Shopping Centre near Dartford on 3rd June at about 10.00 am and will travel in two directions around Britain, and finish at Kimber House – the home of MG in Abingdon – on Sunday 30th July.

Sponsored by Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance, the Relay will see an array of MGs, including more than 50 Y Types in total, covering an undulating 1,834 miles around the roads of Britain, each vehicle carrying out one of 37 stages. Managing director, Peter James, said: “MG is a marque that is particularly close to our hearts so we are delighted to be involved in the celebrations to mark the rare Y Type’s 70th birthday.”
Photo competition
A voucher for up to £100 worth of insurance is on offer to the person who captures the best image of a Y Type taking part in the relay courtesy of Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance – photos will be judged on completion of the Relay after the 2nd August 2017 by Peter James, Brian Rainbow and Julian Bosworth.

- Choose up to three of your best photos of the Relay (no bigger than 1 Mb in size each please)

THE WINNER
Beating-off stiff competition, the winner was Paul Grafham, with his image, above taken moments before the start of the event at Tesco, in Lakeside Shopping Centre, showing MG Y Types lined up and ready to take to the road and organisers wishing the first two drivers good luck for the relay’s starting legs.

the baton
A bespoke baton has been crafted from English Pear wood for the Round Britain Relay by Peter Vielvoye.
Designed to split neatly in two at the start of the Round Britain Relay, at Lakeside Shopping Centre near Dartford on 3rd June, one half of the baton will go with the cars and drivers on the red clockwise route, and one half will go with the cars and drivers on the blue anticlockwise route. The two halves will then be reunited for the Relay’s finale at Kimber House in Abingdon on 30th July.
